Beta 2 Install Driver search

Intel d865Perl Raid 0 (2) WD 160 GB Drives 2.8 Ghz P4 533Mhz 1GB DDR 333Mhz Nec DVD-RW
Have done two installs with this setup, with variants of the same issue
When doing the clean install Vista does not reconize the sound card
When doing an ugrade from a clean XP Pro install Vista loads SoundMax Drivers, but does not support 5.1 speakers.
Has anyone had any sucess with the on board sound with this board?

Charles--
I took this to mean on one of your boxes you needed to get in a Sound Max driver.
I always like posts like this one on a Neowin forum:
"... I was able to get sound max to work in beta 2. I have no idea how, ..." it goes on to say "like I was really stoned Dude, and the music just flowed into the room."
This may be more helpful and at least more specific:

lso, I could not able to load the Sound Max driver by running the setup; But could able to install from Device Manager and pointing directly to inf file. Once it is installed; I could able to see the volume control icon in the system tray. You can see both the UI were redesigned to control the volume.
So try pointing to the inf file. One other trick that sometimes works with drivers and Vista Beta is to choose to browse to the file path in the New Hardware wiz or the wizard that sometimes pops up when Vista recognzies you need certain drivers for hdw on the box, and type it in if you have to.
You also might get some help at one of the "analogue" driver sites:

Good luck,
